[Maya watches him with adoring eyes, ecstatic it's had the effect she intended. She'd hoped this would be the right combination of things to make him feel better, but there's always the chance...]

[She lifts a hand to cradle Dandy's dolphiny cheek.

She was surprised she would even get married, surprised it'd worked out, surprised they'd made it this long— surprised she's even more in love than before.]

[Despite the pout, he still leans against her hand.]

[—and there breaks Maya's face. She throws her head back, laughing wholeheartedly and near uncontrollably for a few moments, until tears gather at her eyes.]

[She manages, at least, between all the squeaks.]

[Well now it's Dandy's turn to cup Maya's cheek, although considering his hand, it might as well be her whole head. He uses his thumb to collect some of her tears, just to move them out of the way of any more that are on their way.]

Now this cheers me up the most.

[Maya leans into his touch immediately, and once she's (mostly) gotten control of her giggling and tears, she gives him an adoring smile.]

Good.

[Just a little giggle or two more. She wishes this moment could go on forever— that other, sadder, or more horrible moments wouldn't follow. But that's life, and she'll treasure this memory and any others she gets to have.]

I wanna see you happy as long as I can.

[King of clowns pulls back and reclines in his chair, cradling his flowers once again. She sure is in some kinda fun mood today, that's for sure.]

Well, you're doin' a damn good job of it.

[Although, he'll admit he feels kind of bad not having anything ready for her. Sure, it was a surprise and all, but he's yet to sweep her off her feet for their anniversary...

He can only blame the apocalypse for so long.]

[Maya gives an overly dramatic sigh, kicking her feet on either side of Dandy and putting down those flowers on the desk next to her.]

[She hopes, very much, that he won't be mad.]

[Dandy frowns as he watches the flowers get put on the desk, his fins drooping far too dramatically.]

I mean...we can still...lock the door after you're done talkin' to me, right?

[Somberness aside, Maya still gives Dandy an impish grin.]

[She giggles a little before straightening up a little and looking him dead in the eye—]

Maya sighs, putting her hands against her cheeks and squeezing for just a moment to prepare herself. Another deep breath.]

I need to tell you... that when I was in my world, I wasn't just... a medium.

In my family, only girls get the power— I think I told you this part before.

[Back when they were getting married, at least.]

But my mom, before she disappeared... she was the chief of the village. And after my sister left, and... died... well, I was supposed to be the new leader of Fey clan, once my training was finished.

But there's always been a power struggle, you know? Women from the split branches of the family have always wanted to take over and be the leader, or... seen the main branch of the family, or the new chief... as too weak.

[She looks down into her lap, brows creased as she forces herself to admit;]

My aunt was one of those people. And she spent... a lot of my life... [heh.] Trying to end it.

[Dandy really doesn't say much of anything, what is there even to say? His first reaction would honestly be some smartass comment about how her life is like some kind of movie, but he feels like this might not be the time for that.

Damn though, he really didn't expect to get hit with something so heavy after happy haha flower clown time.


He opens his arms wide.]

[Normally she'd jump right in, but this time, Maya shakes her head, leaning her head back— and then reaching forward to grab his hands, taking them in hers.]

I'm not telling you this so you'll feel bad for me or anything... But—

But maybe so you'd know that.... more than going home, I'd rather stay here.

[She looks him in the eyes again.]

So I don't want anything to happen to this world. I want... to be able to keep it safe.

[To keep him safe. To keep everything they have together safe.]

Dandy, I want to help the Fog god keep this world alive, and... I want the power not to be scared anymore, too.

[WELL, if Maya didn't grab his hands, his arms definitely would've dropped from hearing that. Still, she can probably feel them slack as he hangs his head.]
