[Said the biggest liar ever.

Dandy's scrunched up into a large, dolphiny ball in the passenger seat, staring out the window with a very scrunched up nose. His tail, despite being held so close to his body, taps repeatedly in what is very clearly SOME sort of irritation.

This man is five.]

[Maya pauses, quiet, looking at Dandy for a moment as she continues to drive—slower than usual, so they can have more time to talk.

She chuckles a little, shaking her head, before she mimics his voice and a line of his very own. It's... a surprisingly good imitation, all things considered.]

I dunno if you realize it, but you totally have a tell and it's pulling this junk.

[The fins on his head twitch a little before he peers over his shoulder.

He can't deny how utterly cute that was.]

I almost hate how well you know me now, that just ain't fair...

[She's still smiling, of course, just ribbing him. As if there was anyone safer to trust with her secrets than this dumb man. She'd tell him anything, if only it were easy.]

So! Let me guess.

[Maya doesn't have to jump too far to guess, especially considering recent public conversations. Nevertheless, she sighs, because... it's not going to be an easy chat.]

[Dandy's little smile fades, his fins drooping. It's becoming increasingly more obvious that she's trapped him into a conversation.

Pretty sneaky, sis.]

That obvious, huh?

Don't you know? I'm psychic.

[Says the girl who has repeatedly said she is not that kind of psychic.

But, the joking tone drops quickly in favor of a more serious one.]

...I... told her, when she told me, that you were gonna be mad. But I thought it wouldn't be fair, if you didn't hear it from her.

Oooohhh, I see, so you knew.

[HUFF.

...And that's about it. In Maya's defense, that does seem pretty fair, so he won't devolve into a mindless tantrum just yet.]

...I don't know what to feel anymore. [A much more serious tone comes out of his normally silly mouth. In a way, it's his attempt to show her that he trusts her enough not to rub it in his face.] The whole thing's got me numb.

Yeah...

[There's a pause, and Maya sighs again.]

It's a lot. I'm sorry I wasn't the one to tell you.

[At least the sound of the road occupies each pause. That way, it's not completely quiet every time she stops to gather her thoughts.]

Well.. instead of what you feel... what do you think?

[Anyone else who knows Dandy probably wouldn't ask something like that, because as everyone knows, Space Dandy doesn't think.]

What do I think, huh...? [He's not trying to be sassy or anything, it's a legit question he asks himself, clicking his tongue idly as he thinks his own thoughts over.] What do I think...

I think...she must've known it would've pissed me off somehow if she went and did it behind my back. Our backs? I dunno how much you were in the know. Either way, she did it anyway and that's kinda shitty.

Well... she did join before she told me... And she did know it would make you mad.

[With no urgency, she actually starts pulling over so they can spend a little more time talking. Once she's put the car in park, she puts both her hands on the wheel and leans over against them while she looks at Dandy and watches for his responses.]

Do you think you would have been mad... if it was the fog?

[The look on her face stays gentle, but probing. She doesn't know how she feels about it herself, but they're not asking about her feelings right now. She wants to know just how Dandy sees it— and wants him to have the chance to really think about it all, too.]

[Stopping, huh? Dandy raises an eyebrow, but he guesses it can't be helped. This shit must be bothering her too if the car ride home isn't long enough to talk about it.]

Man, I dunno anymore. [Dandy slumps his large body against the door, leaning his face against the window pathetically.] I used to think kickin' the shit out of the fog was all I wanted, but SHE wasn't the one who had me smashed with a hammer.

I guess it wouldn't be so personal if it was the fog, y'know what I'm sayin'?

Mmmmm.

[Maya lifts her chin to rest it on top of the steering wheel, staring out at the sky instead of at Dandy.]

I wonder... if she knows that?

You can't trust the fourth, and she can't trust the fog...

[What is anyone supposed to do? They're powerless without the gods, and at odds with them.]

I wonder what would have happened if you'd gotten to talk first...?

[Dandy's suddenly got a wide smile on his face.]

I would've thrown her out the window.

And right back into the arcade.

[Maya lifts her head to lift One finger to point that out.]

I was hopin' more like the lake, but okay.

[FINE, don't let him have his joke!]

... You want to kick a kelpie into the lake?

Just 'cuz she makes crappy choices, doesn't mean I wanna hurt her, duh?

It's like the water horse version of throwing someone on a beanbag.

[That gets Maya to smile, though, leaning back against the steering wheel and looking at Dandy with a warm expression.]

It must be really hard to be in her position right now, you know? With Sonia gone, and... plus I know what it's like, to feel pretty small and powerless compared to other monsters.

I don't know that I'd have done the same thing... but I mean, I still have you, y'know?
