...But Maya falls silent, letting herself slide down to the ground, leaning her cheek against his back and replacing her arms around his waist.

Dandy doesn't move much as he continues to look over his shoulder at her, not wanting to ruin the set up she'd got going against his back.

[Maya nods, kisses Dandy's shoulderblade-- and steps back, letting him free so she can turn to walk back.]

You've been here alone three months, so that definitely means you're cleaning tomorrow. Gotta rest up!

[O-Oh, so she did see the disaster the house currently is...

Adorable shoulderblade kisses can only do so much.]

Yeah yeah, morning's gonna have to get here, first.

[And what better way to make it come faster than passing out on the bed. Dandy gives a small laugh when he turns himself around and scoops her up again, once more carrying her to the bedroom, but this time with the intention of staying there.

The hair crisis is over. Everybody go to sleep.]

I can still walk!

[Maya protests, making absolutely no motion to let go of Dandy.]

You're right, but I'm not gonna forget. It's kinda gross in here.

Geez, it's not that bad...

[It is that bad.]

Makin' me sound like some kinda slob...

[At the very least, there's nothing slobbish about the way he puts her back on the bed again. Only this time he finally crawls in on the other side.

Thankfully there isn't any garbage on the bed itself, gotta keep that sleep space clean.]

[Maya says simply, crawling to settle next to him and rest on her elbows once he's down.]

[When Dandy's down, he lies on his side, facing her. His one arm props up his head because pillows are for the weak right now. With absolutely no grace, his legs begin to kick a little as he tries to shimmy out of those pants he hastily threw on earlier.

It's too hot for pants, damn it. Although Maya's lucky, she's coming back at the end of all this summer heat. It'll be fall soon enough, and then winter...a mermaid's paradise. What a perfect time to take a three month nap, why didn't he think of that?!]

Yeah, well, I'm your slob, so I gotta be doing SOMETHING right.

Or else you wouldn't be sticking around.

Or walkin' two cities over to get to me.

You really don't like walking, do you?

[Maya has to laugh a little. It's a long way, but she is used to walking, and being a mermaid makes her stronger-- but one day she's going to have to tell Dandy about Pearl walking the length of her two-hour train ride! But, that's for another day, when they're both less tired, and she's less enamored with how stupid Dandy's being about this whole thing.

She leans her cheek against her hand to prop up her head too, for a perfect side-lay conversation. Very casual. Very cool.]

Why wouldn't I stick around? I live here. With you.

[Oh good, this is good, the perfect chance to lean in and touch her head again. He coos at what she says, how she lives here. With him. He's obviously teasing with the way he flashes a toothy smile, but it's also accented with tiny dolphin clicks.]

Ooooh, that's nice. I like that. Say that again. Who do you live with?

[Go to bed, you idiot.]

With a huuuuuge dork who said he was going to sleep.

[Maya answers this time, grinning just as wide.]

[......He lets out a 'ssssssssss' through his teeth as he tries to keep his smile.]

See, that's not the right answer. I ain't going to sleep until I hear it.

[Maya rolls her eyes, but for all that grinning she just can't look annoyed. So she presses her lips to his quickly before answering--]

You, Dandy.

Heh...

[It's so simple, and maybe even a little selfish, but he can't help but brighten when she says his name. Hearing it in that voice... When he thinks about it, three months doesn't even seem like that long, but...when you aren't expecting someone to come back, three months feels like forever...

He didn't hear that in forever.

Maybe it's just because he's too tired to look obnoxious right now, but there's a rare softness in his eyes that he can't make go away even if he tried. He didn't think in a million years he'd get so lucky as to see her again, some people never get people back at all, how'd the stars align in his favor like this? What made you come back, Maya Fey?]

I never even got to tell you how much I love you...

[And then he collapses, flopping suddenly into his mattress, a loud snore coming from his mouth that now hangs agape.

He...he was really tired.]

[Maya really is fond of that look-- the way his eyes show just how soft his heart is. It's a melting-in-your-hand-like-chocolate look, just as sweet, and with the glow of his bioluminescence it just reminds her of fireflies. She's so distracted by that look that for a moment it seems she doesn't register what he's said.

Of course, while he dives into snoozeland, the gears in Maya's mind turn to put together the sounds she'd just heard into something intelligible.

And understandable.

Unmistakable.

And suddenly her eyes are big and wide, though for a second she doesnt move an inch, taking in the fact he's just fallen asleep.

That just happened.]

I-- what?

[Maya props herself up on both palms, looking down at Dandy and hearing the snkre of an answer to her question. Her brows fall-- she knows what she heard, she doesn't need to ask, but her heart is still thumping in her ears and her stomach still tied up in knots.

She hasn't even so much as heard a family member tell her they love her, besides Pearl, in an achingly long time.

But Dandy isnt going to answer her and she knows this, so rather than fight it any longer Maya sighs and lays her cheek on Dandy's chest, adjusting to curl up against him. Once she's comfortable she watches the rise and fall of his chest for a few moments, leans up to kiss the bottom of his jaw, and rests her head back down.]

[She's right, she isn't going to get an answer, not a verbal one, anyway. Dandy's way too beat to wake himself back up again, and he'll probably kick himself in the morning for it because how could he NOT spend the whole night up with her?!

Instead, his body just starts to act on its own, his arms instinctively wrapping around her when he feels her on his chest. Finally, after all this time, they get something REAL to wrap around. It must've been a sensation his body was craving, there's no other way to explain just how relaxed it makes him. Just the two of them basking in each other's literal glow, who else would he get something like that with? Even the obnoxious snoring dies down once he's comfortable enough.

The rest of the night plays out peaceful, at least for him, as he holds onto her close and occasionally finds himself pressing his lips against any part of her that he can. Welcome home, Maya.]
