Synopsis: Space Dandy is a a sci-fi comedy series that focuses on the many adventures of the title character's life as a struggling alien hunter. His goal? Make enough money so he can visit his favorite titty bar as often as possible. The show tries to trick you into thinking it's nothing but gags and fourth wall jokes, episodes will often conclude in "bad ends" (ex everyone literally dies in the first episode, there's an episode that ends with everyone becoming zombies, etc), and generally the tone is very light hearted and fun. It then turns everything around and slowly reveals that not only is everything canon, but Dandy is an omnipresent being of some sort, is strongly connected to the multiverse, and a very powerful empire would like to get their hands on him to power their war-ending weapon. Dandy barely realizes what is happening most of the time, he just wants booty.
Personality:
Most people's first impressions of Dandy aren't positive. He's a very loud and obnoxious pervert with no shame, has a tremendous ego, and has a very "my way or the highway" type attitude when it comes to dealing with other people. It is not uncommon for him to pick fights for little to no reason, and the man can hold a grudge like nobody's business. The two friends he does manage to have are often treated very poorly, although the comedic tone of the anime makes it come off as goofy bullying rather than anything truly malicious. Basically no one would be blamed if they wrote Dandy off as a huge jerk.
Of course, if that was all he was, he'd be a terrible main character. In actuality, Dandy has a huge soft side and is your typical "Asshole with a heart of gold." He's incredibly weak for people with a good sob story, with loneliness being a very common theme in Space Dandy. If Dandy feels bad for someone, he puts a surprising amount of effort into helping them out, anything from offering people a place on his ship to spending long nights looking for a lost family member. He's crazy for dogs and a huge supporter of love and other people's relationships, and genuinely seems like he wants people to be happy. You know, as long as they don't piss him off first. Even then, he shows a surprising amount of compassion towards those who slight him sometimes, going as far as offering kind words to an alien who was trying to body snatch him while it dies.
Dandy's own sob story comes in the form of losing his girlfriend to another man, which may explain his spiral into being obsessed with ass and tits. We later find out that this lost love is an alien that takes on the form of a sentient box, the exact opposite of the curvy women Dandy oh so proudly lusts after. Contradictions are quite common for Dandy, this wouldn't be the first, and you shouldn't be surprised if you hear him spout nonsense about one thing, only to say the exact opposite the next. If anyone were to point it out, Dandy would brush it off or blame it on his poor memory.
Dandy's poor memory might have to do with his abilities, being described as some sort of multiuniversal "chosen one," Dandy is constantly getting memories from other timelines and sometimes completely different lives altogether. It's because of this that he often comes off as a big liar, telling stories of how impressive he is when in reality it doesn't make sense for him to be so good at so many different things. To Dandy, however, he's being completely honest and isn't really lying. He is absolutely an amazing racecar driver, or surfer, or ninja, or any other thing imaginable because the multiverse and its possibilities are endless.
That said, Dandy's abilities never seem to go to his head. In fact, Dandy doesn't seem to be aware of them at all in the beginning. With a body composed of a particle called "pyonium," Dandy is considered a very powerful being. Entire empires long to harness his power for their own, and many dream of becoming gods just by controlling it. Meanwhile, when given to opportunity to become a God himself, Dandy turns the offer down because it wouldn't be "fun." The fact that so many people would end it all just to have what he has and Dandy doesn't even bother with it really says all it has to. Despite his ego, Dandy isn't a power hungry monster, he just wants everyone to think he's pretty.
In the end, Dandy's lifestyle boils down to his mantra, "live with the flow." All he wants to do is live a chill life where he's a cool space guy and visit every BooBies restaurant the chain has to offer. He may come off as rude and standoffish at first, but if you give him time, you might find he can be rather sweet and not really the person he wants everyone to think he is. ...or you could just end up arguing every time you see him, that is entirely possible too.
Abilities:
Pyonium
Obviously since Dandy's powers are basically "Godmode: the power," a lot of stuff is going to be nerfed or simply not used at all. They make a big deal about his body being composed of this particle, to the point where he has no DNA at all, but I'm pretty sure DNA is a big part of being a beastman to begin with so I'm going to say that's not the case anymore. Traces of pyonium can probably still be found on Dandy's body, and he can leave it on things he touches along with DNA. So, like, he better not commit any crimes because it'd be really easy to tell it's him. Other than that, I'm saying the particle is inert while he's here, the beastmen are spared any explosions or timeloops.
That said, the ability I WOULD like him to keep is his connection to his other lives. Basically, Dandy can get situational memories from other lives he's lived in other timelines. The show's best example would be when he decides to join a grand pix out of spite and suddenly remembers he was absolutely a super cool race car driver in the past. I play by rule of funny, so I won't suddenly have him become a bomb defusing expert when the situation calls for it, but he leans more towards being a jack of all trades. Like if he wanted to take up cooking, he might find tools or spices just come naturally to him. Basically a big part of his character is spouting off nonsense about how he's really good at something, no one believing him, and all of a sudden he does the thing. It's just sometimes "the thing" is building a rocket out of garbage in memorial of a dead dog and not actually being helpful.
Beast form: Dandy's beastform is a big pig, because of course it is. He gets the full furry treatment with a snout, floppy ears, and hoof-like hands and feet. His body is covered in a short coat of silver fur that has a sort of velvety-sheen to it, mixed with white markings. His hair has grown out into a fluffy mane that travels down his spine and his tail is long and equally fluffy, giving him a sort of wild pig look. His face is however tuskless, indicating his softer personality. Dandy does get bigger both in height and thickness, and can definitely go toe to toe with the other beastmen who love to throw down. Here's a ref!
As for abilities, Dandy gains enhanced strength, an amazing sense of smell, and the sort of tenacity wild pigs are known for having. (ex. if Dandy were to be wounded, he could keep charging longer than another animal might be able to) Dandy's jaw is also strong enough to chew through bone and his stomach can easily digest things others might find difficult.
Extras: Dandy has a laser gun I'd like him to keep. Although it's powerful and looks like it could do a lot of damage, Dandy is a notoriously bad shot and when he isn't missing, the thing often has a dead battery. Again, it's mostly rule of funny, I'd just like him to have something that proves he's from space.
Sample: Dandy on the test drive meme!
